I MD'd Rent a couple of years ago with a local theatre group in a medium sized purpose-built theatre in Surrey. I had the feeling that it was a musical I should experience and explore as an MD, but at first I didn't have a connection with the music. I had to dive into the soundworld and story of Rent to understand and enjoy the musical, and find the incredible depth of artistic vision that lies behind the rock-opera aesthetic. What lay beneath the surface was a moving, heart-wrenching and emotional tale that explores the most intimate parts of the human experience.
